Where to Get Books
We are planning to launch our own bookstore in 2025. However, using it will remain entirely optional. FBReader is, and will always be, open to all sources. You can obtain ebooks from any provider, as long as you select a compatible format. The best formats for FBReader are ePub and fb2. If these are unavailable, please consult the formats table.
There is, however, an even better option. FBReader for Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux supports a technology called OPDS, which enables your reader to connect to online e-book catalogues and stores. Within the app, you can browse and search these catalogues, then download books directly to your device.
The app includes a selection of built-in catalogues, but you can also add your preferred sources. We recommend visiting the OPDS page on the MobileRead wiki, where you’ll find a concise explanation of OPDS and a comprehensive list of catalogues available in various languages.
Please note that the iOS version currently does not support OPDS. We hope to introduce this feature in 2025. In the meantime, if you use FBReader on an iPhone or iPad, we suggest connecting it to the desktop version via network sync. This allows you to access OPDS on your computer, download books, and synchronise them across all your devices.
